Summer is the time to plan for autumn

read in browser

Dear friends and colleagues,

Let’s enjoy this wonderful summer, just as we did earlier this spring during the ‘Ibiza Women Lab’. There, four fascinating, original monologues were created under the artistic direction of Christine Schmalor.
In a few days’ time, our 16th International Theatre Summer Academy, under the artistic direction of Dr Jurij Alschitz, will begin in Montecreto, where we are expecting artists from 13 countries to join us for an ‘Art Picnic’.

So, before we set off for our summer activities, we would like to outline our plans for the autumn, along with a warm invitation to take part and a kindly request to pass this information on to your colleagues.
This fall, Dr Jurij Alschitz will be devoting particular attention to the art of directing – not only the fundamental craft, but also the methodological innovations which he will be publishing shortly.
We’ll be kicking off on 18 October with an online talk that’s open to everyone: New Approaches to the Art of Directing.
The School of Directing training course will start in November.
The Alschitz School for One programme naturally offers the absolutely exquisite version of a directing course. There are currently places available again. You can apply at any time!
Further activities on the subject of directing will be announced in due course.

Actors will find a range of courses that explore new approaches to their craft: How do I act out a theme? The art of storytelling. How do I tap into the magic of dialogue? How do I go about creating a monologue?

Below you will find all the courses. Make sure you don’t miss out on the early-booking discounts!

With best wishes for a wonderful summer!
Christine Schmalor, programme director

play theme – the purest form of acting

Christine Schmalor

Workshop and individual coaching

There is a vacuum for actors in contemporary theatre: no situations, no characters, no plots, just words, words, words… texts, sounds, ideas created by authors, directors or collectively. Exciting – but what should I play? Themes?

How can themes be identified? How can they be opened up? How can they be played?

Only with a clear change in the actor’s position, based on a changed mindset. In this seminar, we will try out new techniques of text analysis that necessarily lead to completely different forms of acting. (…) As a result, you achieve a greater sense of confidence on stage.

More, you will discover emotions and feelings on entirely new levels.

The Actor as Storyteller

Christine Schmalor

Workshop and individual coaching

Rediscover a well-known art form – this course looks at storytelling as a basis for approaching a role, creating a character, as a rehearsal method or for play development. In the next step, we will explore storytelling as a most beautiful art form. So many interesting approaches and techniques. So many acting challenges! So many possibilities for wordplay and mind games. A feast for every actor!

We will look at the fundamental tools, move to new approaches and innovative techniques, and undertake numerous practical exercises and experiments together; during two weekends, four sessions in total.

Then, everyone will embark on their own journey, exploring the various possibilities, developing them further, and thus finding their own story. This process will be accompanied by three individual sessions.

After a month, we will meet for a finale, where we will tell each other our stories and reflect on the work.

The magical power of dialogue

Meet the dialogue in times of monologue.

Dialogue is a powerful tool in communication that releases enormous forces; they can hurt, but they can also heal; above all, they can release new dimensions of thought and action. We need dialogue with the Dialogue. The wisdom of the Dialogue can help us to discover a new potential for artistic and personal development. Dialogue requires us to open up – in doing so I also expose myself to risk – but without risk there is no artistic life.

Do you know the different laws of Dialogue on stage? You will open a new language …
