Don’t trust words

read in browser

seminar with Jurij Alschitz

Dear friends and colleagues,

Precisely because the call to not trust words fits the current political climate perfectly and manifests itself in everyday life, we wish to examine it from an artistic perspective – with a seminar for actors, directors and teachers exploring the fundamental element of our profession. Let’s recall:

In the beginning was the Word

Sat 26 + Sun 27 September at 15:00-17:30 online

Jurij Alschitz on the Energy of Words

Don’t trust words — trust the energy of words.

A word is not only meaning. —  A word is energy.

Whenever you come into contact, into communication with a word, what you perceive first is not its meaning, but its energy.
Or we can put it another way: you perceive the energy of a word — and through that energy, you discover its meaning.

Every word contains energy.
A word can be spoken quietly — and carry enormous energy.
A word can be spoken loudly — and have no energy at all.

You can be sure of one thing: pronouncing a word is far from the same as unleashing its energy.

During this two-day seminar, we will be addressing a number of key questions:

  • How do we discover the energy hidden in a word?
  • How do we release it?
  • How do we set it in motion?
  • How do we allow it to take effect?
  • How do we direct it into space?

The answers will come through a series of unique exercises that I would like to share with you during our work together.

You will be able to hear, see and feel the energy of words.

Join us on this journey – I’m sure you’ll find it fascinating; above all, you’ll discover entirely new ways of expressing yourself on stage.

And for those who cannot join us this time, I offer one important rule for the actor: Don’t pronounce the word. Charge it.

Echo

This seminar is a follow-up to our successful International Theatre Summer Academy and an in-depth exploration of this year’s theme: energy. The acting course focused on the energy of words – a little-explored area and an underestimated tool in acting practice.
Welcome, especially if you haven’t had this summer experience!
