Autumn programme 2026

read in browser

Dear friends and colleagues,

The 16th International Summer Theater Academy, under the artistic direction of Dr. Jurij Alschitz, brought together artists from 12 countries in Montecreto, Italy for an Art Picnic. And now we’re starting the fall with a so-called “Echo Seminar” on September 26–27 (online), which will build on and explore the Summer Academy’s theme in greater depth. Everyone interested in The Energy of Words is invited.

As previously announced, Dr. Jurij Alschitz will devote particular attention this year to the Art of Directing—not only the fundamental craft, but above all the methodological innovations, which he will also be publishing shortly.
On October 18, we’re offering a free online lecture open to everyone:
New Approaches to the Art of Directing.
The School of Directing training course will start in November.
The Alschitz School for One programme offers the absolutely exquisite version of a directing course. There are currently places available again. Apply now!

Actors will find a range of courses that explore new approaches to their craft: How do I act out a theme? The art of storytelling. How do I tap into the magic of dialogue? How do I go about creating a monologue?

Below you’ll find all the courses. Don’t miss out on the early-bird discounts, which are valid until 1 September!

With best wishes for a perfect start into the new season!

Don’t trust words

Jurij Alschitz on the energy of words

Seminar for Actors, Directors and Teachers to explore the most fundamental element of our profession

In the beginning was the Word.
However, a word is not merely meaning. – A word is energy.
But:
How do we discover the energy hidden within a word?
How do we release it?
How do we set it in motion?
How do we allow it to take effect?
How do we direct it into space?
The answers will be provided through a series of unique exercises…

New Approaches to the Art of Directing

Dr Jurij Alschitz has begun compiling his notes from decades of practical work for publication. This has resulted in three books on directing, which are due to be published shortly.

The first book is about preparation.
In it, he proposes a completely different perspective on this process: the director should not be preparing the future production, but rather preparing themselves for an encounter with something they do not yet know. Instead of traditionally searching for an idea, a concept, answers, and solutions, the director should learn to preserve the unknown.

So, what does it really mean to prepare for a performance if the true creative process begins where preparedness ends?

In this open lecture, Jurij Alschitz will pose these and other questions, thereby offering an introduction to his art of directing.

play theme – the purest form of acting

Christine Schmalor

Workshop and individual coaching

There is a vacuum for actors in contemporary theatre: no situations, no characters, no plots, just words, words, words… texts, sounds, ideas created by authors, directors or collectively. Exciting – but what should I play? Themes?

How can themes be identified? How can they be opened up? How can they be played?

Only with a clear change in the actor’s position, based on a changed mindset. In this seminar, we will try out new techniques of text analysis that necessarily lead to completely different forms of acting. (…) As a result, you achieve a greater sense of confidence on stage.

More, you will discover emotions and feelings on entirely new levels.

The Actor as Storyteller

Christine Schmalor

Workshop and individual coaching

Rediscover a well-known art form – this course looks at storytelling as a basis for approaching a role, creating a character, as a rehearsal method or for play development. In the next step, we will explore storytelling as a most beautiful art form. So many interesting approaches and techniques. So many acting challenges! So many possibilities for wordplay and mind games. A feast for every actor!

We will look at the fundamental tools, move to new approaches and innovative techniques, and undertake numerous practical exercises and experiments together; during two weekends, four sessions in total.

Then, everyone will embark on their own journey, exploring the various possibilities, developing them further, and thus finding their own story. This process will be accompanied by three individual sessions.

After a month, we will meet for a finale, where we will tell each other our stories and reflect on the work.

The magical power of dialogue

Meet the dialogue in times of monologue.

Dialogue is a powerful tool in communication that releases enormous forces; they can hurt, but they can also heal; above all, they can release new dimensions of thought and action. We need dialogue with the Dialogue. The wisdom of the Dialogue can help us to discover a new potential for artistic and personal development. Dialogue requires us to open up – in doing so I also expose myself to risk – but without risk there is no artistic life.

Do you know the different laws of Dialogue on stage? You will open a new language …
