The ⇒ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts is a joint initiative of UNESCO and ITI together with higher education and research institutions. It was built in alignment with the guidelines and procedures of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chair and Network Program. The Network´s main focus is higher education in the performing arts – drama, theatre, dance, music theatre, playwriting and all related performing arts disciplines.
With the 2018 Conference and Second General Assembly of the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts in Shanghai, China the Network expanded from 20 to more than 40 institutions including the World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT. Christine Schmalor, WTTI’s programme director is elected member of the newly established board.

In June 2020, the World Theatre Training Institute organises the online conference about new dimension in theatre training Challenges of the Mind.
In December 2021, a week-long Network Special Connecting Event was able to bring the now 60+ members together, at least online, to introduce each other and discuss current issues.
