Storytelling outside the box

read in browser

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We had a wonderful time during this year’s International Theatre Summer Academy in Montecreto (Italy). It allowed us to rediscover the potential of our ancient craft of storytelling and to begin developing new narrative forms.
Our two courses in acting and directing were sources of inspiration with their truly international line-up: artists from Belarus, China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Korea, Poland, Mexico, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates and the United States came together and developed into a perfect ensemble within the first day.

For this reason, artistic director Dr Jurij Alschitz and acting teacher Christine Schmalor have decided to continue the studies they have begun in an online lab for contemporary narrative forms.

Anyone interested in exploring this exciting field together with participants from the academy is cordially invited to do so.

Storytelling outside the box

The Storytelling Lab for contemporary narrative forms consists of three parts.
Take part in the Lab Intro first and then decide whether you want to continue with the practical work.

LAB INTRO

6 + 7 September
15 – 18:00 (UTC+2)
Dr Jurij Alschitz: Online lecture with exercises

We are going to explore contemporary forms of storytelling, where classical structure gives way to fractality, the Mobius tape, intertwined realities and narrative spirals. My goal is to show you how to build multi-layered stories that continue to “live on” in the viewer’s mind long after the end – in infinity. Your goal: to learn how to create stories that reflect the non-linearity of modern perception of the world.

This online lab looks at storytelling in its experimental forms and is aimed at theater professionals, directors and actors, screenwriters and playwrights, theater teachers—anyone who works with stories as living material, who already knows the basics of storytelling and wants to go beyond the usual.
If you are familiar with the basics of storytelling, join us!

LAB PRACTICE

September
Your individual lessons with Christine Schmalor

For those who want to continue: 1 / 2 / 3 meetings for your storytelling experiments.

If you feel inspired by the new ideas and suggestions for storytelling and would like to implement and try them out, you can do so with my support in individual sessions. Together, we will test the various possibilities and combinations. In the process, you will develop a new artistic stage language and confidence in your presence.
C.S.

Scheduled individually. (Extra booking, which includes part 3)

LAB PRESENTATION and REFLECTION

Early October
for all who wish to share their results and receive feedback from Jurij Alschitz

Your individual research will lead to your storytelling on stage/screen. In the final joint meeting, everyone will present their storytelling online and receive specific professional feedback and recommendations from Jurij Alschitz.

We will send out the texts on which the Lab is based from 25 August onwards. It is therefore advisable to register by then.
