Improvisation – My System of Stanislavsky N°8

Dear colleagues.

The monthly course My System of Stanislavsky will soon reach its end, but even now you can still join us for

Session N°8

Monday, 23 May from 15-18:00 UTC+2

Improvisation

Follow the dialogue between Dr Jurij Alschitz and Dr Olga Lapina. The topic of Improvisation has a very special meaning for both of them, both in their stage and teaching practice, and also as a research subject.

The paradox is the phenomenon that improvisation permeated almost all aspects of the actor’s creative process in the Stanislavsky School and in all schools after him, although this term was never directly mentioned in Stanislavsky’s written texts and I doubt that it was ever spoken aloud during his lessons or rehearsals.
We would like to invite you to question together the concept of improvisation, which is difficult to squeeze into a framework. What is improvisation? What are its principles, tasks and goals? What changes take place in the artist during the process of improvisation?
We want to propose to speak about improvisation as an art, in the first place, not just a technique. Who knows, probably, somewhere in the depth of improvisation are hidden the treasures of a true artistic freedom.
Jurij Alschitz
