Happy World Theatre Day 2026!

read in browser

Dear friends and colleagues,

“Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to imagine what we aspire to. We are social animals and designed biologically for engagement with the world. Every sense organ is a gateway for encounter and through this meeting we achieve greater definition of who we are. Through storytelling, aesthetics, language, movement, scenography – theatre as a total art form can make us see what was, what is and what our world could be.” W.D.

Theatre – the possibility of shared presence

is the motto of this years World Theatre Day message written by the great actor and theatre artist Willem Dafoe. We gladly share it here:
>> Message and access all available translations.

Share your presence! Share your art!
And – let us share our faith in peace!

Dr. Jurij Alschitz, artistic director WTTI
Christine Schmalor, programme director WTTI
