The Director’s Rehearsal Methods

Dr Jurij Alschitz

The indispensable know-how for Directors, Teachers and Actors

“The true art of directing reveals itself in the ability to work with actors.
All rehearsal methods can be compared to keys with which you can, so to speak, “open” the actor, the role and the play. They, like all keys, are somewhat similar, but nevertheless differ in a small “prong” and therefore open different locks.”

Six Tools is based on the School of Jurij Alschitz

The Actor as Storyteller

Christine Schmalor

Rediscover a well-known art form – this course looks at storytelling as a basis for approaching a role, creating a character, as a rehearsal method or for play development. In the next step, we will explore storytelling as a most beautiful art form. So many interesting approaches and techniques. So many acting challenges! So many possibilities for wordplay and mind games. A feast for every actor!

Take your own way to your story – first we will look at the fundamental tools, move to new approaches and innovative techniques, and undertake numerous practical exercises and experiments together; during two weekends, four sessions in total.

Then everyone will embark on their own journey, exploring the various possibilities, developing them further, and thus finding their own story. This process will be accompanied by three individual sessions.

After a month, we will meet for a finale, where we will tell each other our stories and reflect on the work.

The Vertical of the Role

Christine Schmalor

The Method for the self-preparation of the actor – a classic in the European Theatre – was created by Dr. Jurij Alschitz 25 years ago. Over the years it has naturally changed, many steps have been adapted for online teaching and lead to even more self-reliance for the artists.

This method will help you prepare for a role throughout your life. The clear work steps give you certainty as to which tasks you can set yourself and in what order so that you can grasp a role in all its dimensions.

The magical power of dialogue

Christine Schmalor

Meet the dialogue in times of monologue.

Dialogue is a powerful tool in communication that releases enormous forces; they can hurt, but they can also heal; above all, they can release new dimensions of thought and action. We need dialogue with the Dialogue. The wisdom of the Dialogue can help us to discover a new potential for artistic and personal development. Dialogue requires us to open up – in doing so I also expose myself to risk – but without risk there is no artistic life.

Do you know the different laws of Dialogue on stage? You will open a new language…

Dr. Jurij Alschitz

The new Face of the Acting Teacher

Rethinking teaching, re-inventing oneself as pedagogue.

Jurij Alschitz invites you to become part of the first generation of quantum theatre teachers: “In this master class, you will encounter a new philosophy of teaching, where a lesson is understood as a living organism and the teacher as a field in which knowledge and ignorance, order and chaos, thought and action come together.”

This is a 3-month programme for all those who have set themselves the goal of training the next generation of actors and enabling them to perform in a theatre that we do not yet know today.

Passing on knowledge is a nobel tradition, but there is a danger of stagnation. This course is for all those who see teaching as a research process and who not only teach students, but are themselves a driving force for new forms of acting and stage presence.

Jurij Alschitz
Research Seminar: new Technologies of Acting

For advanced practicing actors and directors

Dr Jurij Alschitz will talk about innovations in acting practice resulting from the application of quantum physics. At first glance they may seem impossible, but at second glance they show us the way to pioneering forms of acting.

XVI International Theatre Summer Academy 2026!

Artistic Direction: Dr Jurij Alschitz / International team of teachers

With its annual International Theatre Summer Academy, the World Theatre Training Institute offers a supplement to drama school programmes and therefore offers both students and professional theatre professionals a unique opportunity for personal advanced training.

Two courses for Acting and Directing
with a common theme:
From the Energy of the Word to the Energy of the Scene

This year’s academy will explore with you the relationship between the energy of the actor, the energy of words, the energy of performance, the energy of the stage, and the energy of the surrounding world.

ART PICNIC

“Nature is artificial, and art is natural.” (Oscar Wilde)

Both groups will end up working together about the profound interaction between art and the world around it. We will have the opportunity to hear, feel, and see how the energy of theatrical performance can energise the surrounding world and nature, and how the energy of nature can inspire actors to new forms of self-expression.
